Quote of the Day

"Blind world, rats win."

Rats win in a blind world. A world in darkness is a world without friendship, family, unity and love.

A world in darkness means:
- friends are never there
- every enemy could be your friend
- every friend could be your enemy
- blue could red, and red could be blue

It's a while different game in darkness, it's a whole different game.

World of Warcraft Analysis - Warrior Stances

The Warrior class in World of Warcraft has three stances, they are Battle Stance, Defensive Stance and Berserker Stance.

Just like a stance in real life, one stance can be present at a time,in World of Warcraft and each stance provides some unique abilities that will only work in the specified stance(s).

I won't go in detail of the three stances, since patches keep changing them. And the use of the stances change rapidly from PvE to PvP or from level to level.

World of Warcraft Analysis - Charge Ability

The Charge ability is definately one of the most original ability designed by Blizzard Entertainment. The only class that has this ability is the Warrior class, best known for its high plate armor and strong melee physical damage.

The Charge ability went through changes and tweaks multiple times, but its basic princple hasn't changed - that is to quickly engage and close in to your opponent. It is usually the initial move of any Warrior.

Had warriors not have the Charge ability. Warriors would have a difficult time closing in ranged classes such as Hunter and Mage, as the slow effect could almost keep the warrior never in melee combat range of themselves.

The charge ability is great, and loved by players, it could be a symbolic ability to represent the Warriors in World of Warcraft.

World of Warcraft Analysis - Character Animation

World of Warcraft character animations, despite the nonlogical criticisms from random people on the Internet about how World of Warcraft does not have the best character graphics. The character animations in my opinion is still one of the best and leading others by far.

The character animations in World of Warcraft are smooth, logical and just plain cool. Whether it's running, or stopping from running or walking or landing from a jump, the animation is all very well done and the transitions are splendid as well.

The /dance command is something loved by the people and is shared with others through mediums like YouTube videos or in-game.

World of Warcraft Analysis - Food/Water

In World of Warcraft, the quickest way to replenish yourself when out of combat is probably through eating and/or drinking (unless you got a good healer buddy with ya).

The regeneration rate isn't instant, but sure is a lot faster than natural regeneration given from the attribute Spirit.

This is a great design. It adds natural-and-positive-ness into the game, also tally up more fun interactions to the game.

World of Warcraft Analysis - Hunter

The Hunter class in World of Warcraft is basically a ranged character that deals mainly physical damage and some magical damage from a far, it can also go in melee combat (deals less damage), and has a pet.

In other words, Hunters are archers with a melee pet.

The addition of the pet is a great design. Had it not have a pet, it would be really imbalanced as the hunter could just kite the opponent and kill mobs before it reaches the Hunter.

World of Warcraft Analysis - Critical Strike Rating

In World of Warcraft, characters can get critical strike rating from gears and certain passive abilities (as of 3.0 patch).

Critical Strike Rating is a number that converts into a certain number that is added to your default critical strike chance. The higher level the character is, higher critical strike rating is needed to achieve the same critical strike chance as previous level.

I think this is done intentional to give players a feeling that you have increased by much, though the actual critical strike chance stays the same relatively.

As far as to whether the increaes in critical strike rating needed is too much or not, I think it is slightly a bit over.

World of Warcraft Analysis - Critical Strike

Critical strikes are hits that deal much more damage than an usual hit and triggers abilities/talents that look after when critical strike occures.

A melee critical strike does 2 times of normal damage, where as

A spell critical strike does 1.5 times of normal damage.

The reason spell does less is because spells are ranged, and it is kinda imbalanced if two critical spell strikes hit on the same target.

World of Warcraft Analysis - Cooldowns

In World of warcraft, each spell has its own cooldown time. Fundamental spells usually have zero or very few cooldowns, where as more powerful spells have 6 or more seconds of cooldown. Huge buffs like Recklessness for Warrior have 5 minute cooldown time.

After each spell/ability is used, there is a 1.5 of global cooldown, disallowing use of spells/abilities for the next 1.5 seconds. Some abilities does not trigger global cooldown, such as Warrior's Bloodrage.

Global cooldown is an innovative and great design. It prevents mass nuking that frequently occured in previous MMO games. WoW also has a great animation for global cooldown.

World of Warcraft Analysis - Armor

World of Warcraft, a super popular Online Multiplayer Role Playing Game. It has great content, but unfortunately has countless morons and not-yet-caught criminals. To make things worse, more time means better gears, which result in real life losers having the best gear, looking the greatest where as the smart positive people are labelled as "noobs" constantly in trade chat by these criminals.

Anyways, in World of Warcraft, armor is like that of Warcraft III. It is a percentage, rather than a number that u subtract from to calculate the resultant damage. And as you level, your armor increases by a lot, but the actual percentage damage deduction does not change by much. That is done to give an illusion that you have became much more powerful before, I am not sure if this was intentional or not. Probably non-intentional.

Classes that wear Plates have the highest armor, then the classes that wear Mail, then Leather, and then the Cloth wearers have the least armor.

Something to note here, in World of Warcraft, armor reduces physical damage taken, just physical damage, it does not affect magical damage at all.

World of Warcraft Analysis - Potions

Just like almost every other MMO game, World of Waraft has potions as well, and different levels of them.

In previous Blizzard games, such as the Diablo series, potions had near zero cooldowns, which allowed players to stack them in inventory and chug them fast if you want to replenish health. They later discovered that to be not such of a good game feature, so they made potions in World of Warcraft with cooldowns, (2 minutes).

Just a while go, Blizzard made the 2 minute potion cooldown into non-combat cooldown only, so that players could not chug them in raids to give them that tremendous unplanned health/mana boost.

I think it's a great change.

World of Warcraft Analysis - Talent Trees

Each class in World of Warcraft has 3 talent trees. You get 1 talent point every time you level, which you can invest in a talent. The minor talents each give aprox 0.8-1.5% boost in your overall dps, and the big talents give 10-15%. It used to be slightly less, but Blizzard have buffed it after the expansions.

Talent tree would mean a lot more if there were no easy ways to copy others just by looking at best people's talent trees.

Because after all, you want it to be a fun puzzle that people have to figure out, and not having everybody looking like each other. It would be nice if the talent trees were made such a way that there would be 5 to 8 or more builds that are each arguably better than the rest.

World of Warcraft Analysis - Mana Mechanics

In World of Warcraft, couple new mana mechanics are introduced. I am quite sure Blizzard is pretty much the original creators of these things.

Rage - Warrior's mana. Rage generates when damage is dealt and when damage is taken. Rage degenerates slowly when out of combat. Taking damage generates aprox 1/3 of rage if that damage was instead dealt by you.

Focus - Hunters pets' mana. it generates very fast, it is really similar to Rogues'mana - Energy.

Energy - Rogues' mana. It starts at 100, decreases when skills are used and regenerates by itself pretty fast.

Rage goes from 0 to 100, energy goes from 100 to 0 lawl.

World of Warcraft Analysis - Character Attributes

World of Warcraft is a succesful game that has a sucessful a character attribute design.

Five basic character attributes exist in WoW, they are:
- Strength
- Agility
- Stamina
- Spirit
- Intelligence

Strength affects your melee damage and the amount you could block when a shield when a block occurs.
Agility affects your melee damage, armor and critical hit chance.
Stamina affects your health, the more stamina you have, the more health you will have,
Intelligence is like the mana-version of Stamina, plus it gives spell critical hit chance.
Spirit increases your health and mana regeneration.

World of Warcraft Analysis - Class Design

World of Warcraft has great classes, many modified version of the default ones, plus tons of original ones. The spell of each class has heavy culture in them and deep meanings. Each class has tons of unique spells of its own to siginify the meaning of each class and create various different gameplays.

Druid, a nature caster class, does stuff like Earth Shock, Lightning Storm, Hurricane and various animal form transformations.

Warrior, a staple MMO class, melee combatant with heavy armor. In World of Warcraft, it has some great added abilities like Charge, Rend, Mortal Strike and Berserker Stance.

Rogue, a melee class that can stealth, less armor than warrior, faster attack speed. Does things like poison, disorientate, backstab.

(more to come)

World of Warcraft Analysis - Graphics

World of Warcraft, first went public in fall 2004. A quite of an ancient game I must say. I remember back then, having 1024 * resolution was the shit. If you could run World of Warcraft at that resolution with everything max and still get 60 frame per second, you had a really good computer.

As time goes by (fast), Spicyham starts to see better and better graphics in games and faster machines became more widely available. Within a few years, World of Warcraft graphics at the game engine aspect was exceeded by almost every game that is later published, Half Life II Episode 1/2, Team Fortress 2, Command & Conquer 3, to name a few.

Although the game engine of World of Warcraft is of a previous one, the overall experience and visual appeal still exceeds most newer games by great amount. World of Warcraft design team certainly knows a lot of it. They probably knows quite a lot about what to do and espeically what-not-to do.

World of Warcraft Analysis - Music

The music choices in WoW sure are great. Almost every region has its own music for it. And in popular places like faction cities, more than 13 minutes of music are often designed just for it.

World of Warcraft doesn't have any rock or hip pop music in their game, which is a great decision I think. Rock music destroys the delicate senses required for observation, decision-making and overall enjoyment of a computer game. Hip-hop contains too much heavy drum beats, which overdrives players' adredeline.

You can say World of Warcraft music is classical. But I think it's good enough for it to have own category. Classical music are composed by synthesizing different instruments together, instruments like violin, deeper violin, trumpet, piano, and sometimes drum. Where as World of Warcraft music has much more variety of sounds, and also a quite more sound pieces here and there, like the sound of water falling down, an eagle screeching in the distance, etc..

World of Warcraft Analysis - Overview

World of Warcraft, a super popular online game. Played by millions, has a vast universe, deep story line and an amazing combat system. There is so much to say what is good about World of Warcraft, and it is hard to describe them all in a few paragraphs, if not couple books.

The same lead designer of StarCraft, Diablo series, Warcraft III also took the lead designer part in the development of World of Warcraft. It is no suprise to me that the game would be just as high quality as game company's previous games. Almost everything is great about World of Warcraft; there isn't almost anything that players could go like "oh, that needs changes" or "what's up with that thing over there". It is almost impossible to find a frequent bug or glitch in the game, which is very frequent in almost every other game. The amount of hackers is almost never a topic in the game - since players will never encounter one.
